McKeesport, PA. – As preparations begin for the 2019-2020 academic and athletic seasons, Penn State Greater Allegheny is getting ready to welcome in the next generation of Penn Staters. They will do just that when they host their first New Student Orientation of the summer on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. as the freshman class takes their first steps in joining the PSUGA family.
PSUGA Athletics will also be there welcoming in the new students and showing them the many opportunities afforded to them by the athletics department. Sports Information Director Zack Zeigler and Assistant Athletic Director Tyler Care will both be at the Student Engagement and Student Experience talk at 11:45 a.m. and will be at a table as part of the Campus Resource fair in the Ostermayer Room from 1 – 2:30 p.m.
Among the students signed up for the event is freshman Men’s Soccer player Javokhir Rakhmatullaev, who will be joining head coach Dale Odim’s team for the 2019 season. NSO is a chance for the incoming freshman class to get a taste of what PSUGA is like while completing everything that needs to be done before the start of their freshman year on August 26th.
The day will begin with Dr. Jacqueline Edmondson addressing the crowd at 8:45 a.m. followed by some icebreakers at 9:05 a.m. Then, the day moves to the Traina room for meetings on Digital Fluency, Understanding your Degree, and Financial Literacy before the group breaks for lunch and the Student Engagement session. After lunch, the group will split up and rotate through a series of three stations where they will be introduced to Academic Advising, Financial Aid provided by PSUGA, and the different clubs and organizations offered.
This will be the first of six NSO dates on the calendar as the class of 2023 gets ready to begin their college journey at PSUGA. The other NSO dates on the schedule are the following:
