PSUGA Volleyball Faces Fayette in Match with Playoff Implications
The PSUGA Volleyball takes on PSU-Fayette in their biggest game of the season tonight at 7 p.m. A win sets them up for a chance at claiming a playoff spot on Saturday, a loss takes them out of the playoff picture.
McKeesport, PA. – The 2018-2019 Volleyball season is coming down to it’s final week of regular season play. For the Penn State Greater Allegheny Volleyball Team (9-13, 2-6). It means a chance to fight for their Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs lives when they take on Penn State Fayette (16-7, 7-1) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. PSUGA needs to win their final two games to secure a PSUAC Playoff spot and it starts with trying to defeat Fayette on Wednesday.
PSUGA enters Wednesday’s game with a little momentum behind them after securing their seventh sweep of the season defeating Westmoreland County CC 3-0. They dominated the first set 25-12 before the Wolfpack battled back in set two getting to within two points of PSUGA before falling 25-23. PSUGA came back and won the third set pretty easily 25-14 to complete the sweep.
Alix Ellis (Derry, PA./Derry Area HS) led the offense on the day with 14 kills on 34 total attacks throughout the day. Sueriah Timsah (Mesquite, TX./West Mesquite HS) followed behind her with five kills while leading the defensive side of the ball with eight digs. Setter Seiblesierra Ili (Barstow, CA./Bartow HS) finished with a team high 19 assists and now has 310 on the season putting her third all-time on the PSUGA Career assists list in just her freshman season.
With the win, PSUGA has some momentum behind them as they head towards the final two games of the season. They would have to win both of those games to make it to the PSUAC Playoffs as the number four seed from the PSUAC West Division. After missing the playoffs by only a couple of games a season ago, PSUGA is determined to get back to the tournament and show what they can do.
PSU-Fayette has been rolling this season with a 7-1 record in conference play with their only loss coming at the hands of PSU-DuBois. They are coming off of a 3-0 sweep of Penn State New Kensington where they did not allow PSNK to score over 20 points in any set. Siteri Tale led the way for Fayette with 10 kills on 19 total attacks leading them to set wins of 25-11, 25-19, and 25-14.
PSUGA has had some trouble against PSU-Fayette in the past with a record of 0-19 against the Roaring Lions. Their last matchup came on September 23rd where they lost 3-0. Ellis had nine kills on 29 total attacks while Kaylee Holtzman (McKeesport, PA./McKeesport, HS) finished with five kills on the night.
Tip-off for Wednesday night’s game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the campus of Penn State Fayette. The game will be played in the campuses main gym.
