After a career week, Tina Clybourn picks up her second weekly award being named the USCAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
McKeesport, PA. - It has been a big week for Penn State Greater Allegheny Women's Basketball sophomore Tina Clybourn (Pittsburgh, PA./Brashear HS). After picking up her first ever Penn State University Athletic Conference Player of the Week Award on Tuesday, she was announced Wednesday as the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
Clybourn had a big week combining to score 80 points and leading her team to a 3-0 record as they got back on track after dropping their first game of 2019. Clybourn started the week with a 14 point effort against Mont Alto that helped her team pick up a 72-65 win that gave them back-to-back wins.
It was her second game of the week where she really made her mark scoring a career high 34 points in an 81-44 win over PSU-Scranton. Clybourn also permanetly etched her name in the PSUGA record books with nine three-pointers breaking the previous single game record.
She hit 6 in the first half alone and was tied for the all-time single game record. She would promptly come out in the second half and hit the record breaking three just three minutes into the half. She finsihed the day with nine breaking the previous record by three three-pointers.
Things would continue to look up from there for Clybourn as she turned in another strong effort in her teams 87-22 win over PSU-New Kensington. While she didn't hit nine three-pointers, she was able to score 14 buckets and put up her second straight 30 point game finishing with 32 points and pushing the women's win streak to four straight games.
Clybourn is the first PSUGA Women's Basketball player to be recognized by the USCAA in over two seasons. PSUGA has done a complete turn around in 2018 sitting atop the PSUAC West Division and competing for one of the top two seeds in the playoffs for the first time since the 2013-2014 season.
It is also the first time in Clybourn's career that she has been named USCAA Player of the Week. Her win marks the sixth time this season that a PSUGA athlete has won the award giving her and her team a big boost over this final season push.
Clybourn and her team will return to action on Friday when they go on the road to face PSU-York in a big conference matchup.
