McKeesport, PA. – The Penn State University Athletic Conference released their weekly player of the week awards on Tuesday and Penn State Greater Allegheny Women’s Basketball player Tina Clybourn (Pittsburgh, PA./Brahsear HS) has been named this week’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Clybourn helped lead her team to a perfect 3-0 record while averaging 26.7 PPG over the three games.
It started out as a typical week for PSUGA’s sharp shooter as Clybourn put up 14 points against PSU-Mont Alto. She hit a team leading four three-pointers and got her team back on a roll after splitting their first two games of 2019. As the week went on, things would heat up for Clybourn and her team.
It was in her team’s 81-22 win over PSU-Scranton on Friday that Clybourn not only led her team, but wrote her name into the PSUGA record books. After hitting six three-pointers in the first half, Clybourn needed just one more to break the single-game record for threes. She would accomplish that feat just minutes into the second half and went on to hit nine total in the game as part of a career high 34 point effort and PSUGA had won their third game in a row.
While the threes didn’t come as frequent in their final game of the week against PSU-New Kensington, Clybourn still put together her second 30-point game of the week scoring 32 and hitting 14 total shots as her team pulled off their fourth straight win 87-22. Clybourn was a big part of her team’s success and has really found herself in her sophomore season.
She has already set a career high with 263 points through her first 17 games and she currently ranks sixth in the PSUAC averaging 15.5 points per game. She has provided head coach Chrissy French with a third reliable offensive weapon allowing her to do different things during the game.
It is Clybourn’s first career player of the week award and it is the second time this season that a PSUGA Women’s Basketball player has been given the award. In total this season, six PSUGA athletes have received player of the week honors from the conference across the five sports that have competed so far.
Clybourn and her team will return to action on Friday when they go on the road to face Penn State York at 5 p.m.
