McKeesport, PA. – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association released their weekly awards on Tuesday and Penn State Greater Allegheny Soccer Player Nic Babic (Pittsburgh, PA.) has been named this week’s USCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. Babic had a career game against Southern State Community College on Saturday helping him earn the national recognition.
Babic led his team to their historic 15-1 victory contributing four goals and one assist in the victory. He was very efficient in his shooting taking eight shots, four on goal, for a .500 shooting percentage. Babic scored two of his goals in the first ten minutes of the contest helping PSUGA jump out to a 4-0 lead. Later in the game, he would help close the door with goals in the 69th and 71st minute to round out his day.
Prior to Saturday’s contest, Babic had never scored a goal in his PSUGA career over the course of 10 games played. Babic credited his teammates for giving him the opportunities in front of the net and he capitalized.
“It gives me all the confidence in the world having them there passing the ball,” said Babic. “I hadn’t had a goal in all the games I played last year, and they set me up for I don’t know how many goals today and I was able to put some of them away.”
Babic is the second PSUGA athlete in as many weeks to be recognized by the USCAA for their efforts on the field. Last week, golfer Taylor Coccia earned national honors being named the USCAA Woman’s Golfer of the week for her 107-course score at the White Course Invitational.
Babic and the rest of the PSUGA Soccer team are back in action today when they open Penn State University Athletic Conference play against PSU-New Kensington at 4 pm.
