Soccer Ranks 11th in USCAA Top 20 Coaches Poll
McKeesport, Pa. – It has been a historic season already for Penn State Greater Allegheny Soccer (6-1, 5-0) during the 2017/18 season. They are off to their best start in school history both overall and in conference, They got their first ever win against PSU-Hazleton, and they already have two PSUAC players of the week, Marin Marina (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) in week two and Colin Bucsok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) last week.
On Thursday, PSUGA could put another check on a school first as the Unites States Collegiate Athletic Association released their weekly coaches poll and Penn State Greater Allegheny ranked 11th in the nation. This comes after two big wins last week over Penn State Hazleton and Penn State New Kensington to move PSUGA to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play.
Head Coach Dale Odim has been pleased with the play of his team this season, especially his defense. Freshman goal keeper Colin Bucsok has already collected three shut outs this season and has allowed one goal or less in five of the teams seven contests, and Nate Andrews (Penn Hills, Pa./Serra Catholic) and Nick Andrews (Penn Hills, Pa./Serra Catholic) have done a nice job of setting up their strikers with good shooting opportunities.
Marin Marina has lead the offensive side of the ball this season with a team leading nine goals. He is followed by junior Belmo Nurkic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bladwin HS) with five goals and senior Jake Theiret (Port Vue, Pa./South Allegheny) with four goals.
