2013 Men's Soccer Preview
McKeesport, Pa. - Head coach Achilles Vassilicos and the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's soccer team get in gear to start their first season of play in the 2013-14 season.
"Numbers are very good, we have about twenty student-athletes coming out to practice everyday," said Vassilicos. "The team consists of good athletes that grew up with the sport. We have a competitive team that will build around the more superior athletes."
"Freshman midfielder Bengali Diane (New Jersey/James J. Ferris) is a very gifted player that will help the team immensely. Freshman midfielder Gerardo Diaz (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/I.C. Academy) has a strong background in soccer and will be able to be very helpful to his team. Freshman forward Manoj Sharma (India/Baldwin) will be useful with his talents and be able to help his team offensively. Another talented player on the field is the goalkeeper/center back Jordan Diaz (Gary, Ind./Merrillville)."
"The speed and fitness levels are up among the men, which will make the battle a little bit easier. Some of them will be unfamiliar with competition but I believe they will be able to compete with the teams faced. The student-athletes know what to do in order to become successful. The men will need to go in and make a statement to be taken seriously. Success breathes success, so make a statement and success will follow."
