Men's Basketball Comes from Behind to Beat Penn State New Kensington
New Kensington, Pa. — Penn State Greater Allegheny came from behind to garner a hard-fought 62–59 road victory over Penn State New Kensington on Saturday afternoon, rallying from a double-digit first-half deficit to secure the win.
The Lions trailed 33–23 at the break after New Kensington controlled the glass early and shot efficiently in the opening half. Greater Allegheny flipped the script after halftime, outscoring the hosts 39–26 over the final 20 minutes behind timely shooting, strong free-throw execution, and a composed finish down the stretch.
Jordan Poole led the way with a game-high 16 points, going 7-of-8 from the free-throw line while logging all 40 minutes. Achilles Tucker-Turner and Xavier Gaffney each added 13 points, with both guards knocking down three triples to spark the second-half surge. Elijah Hannon anchored the interior with a double-double, posting 10 points and 10 rebounds to help stabilize the Lions after a physical first half.
Greater Allegheny shot 39.2 percent from the field and connected on nine three-pointers, but the difference came at the line, where the Lions converted 13-of-14 free throws, including several key makes late to hold off a New Kensington push.
New Kensington was led by Olwadara Idowu's 17 points on an efficient 8-of-9 shooting performance, while Shane Peters added 13 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Despite winning the rebounding battle 34–18, the hosts struggled at the free-throw line, finishing just 5-of-11.
With the win, Penn State Greater Allegheny improves to 8-10 on the season and 6-5 in conference play, showing resilience and poise in a tough road environment.
