Greater Allegheny Men's Basketball Team Volunteer At Auberle
McKeesport, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team took time away from their studies and practices to volunteer Saturday at Auberle.
While the men were spending time, they were in the gym working directly with the boys from Program C and GOAL. The basketball players were showing off some of their talent most of the day, showing the kids several basketball drills.
"The coaches and players from Penn State (Greater Allegheny) took a special interest in our kids and spent a lot of time and patience by working one-on-one with the boys," said Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator Ralph K. Wagley.
Wagley writes, "Needless to say, everyone had a lot of fun. It was quite enjoyable seeing these young athletes in action by displaying not only their skills, but also by sharing their knowledge of the game. These young athletes were without a doubt excelltent mentors and teachers as their mature personalities rubbed off on our kids in the form of sportsmanship. Everyone lined up after the exhausting work-out and shook hands. What was next was quite surprising. The Penn State Greater Allegheny volunteers and the Auberle boys took it upon themselves to take a group photo. Afterwards, the Greater Allegheny team stayed over and enjoyed lunch in the cafeteria with the kids they worked with."
Mr. Wagley concluded the letter by saying that Auberle would like to give a big thank you to the Penn State Greater Allegheny Athletic Department for a wonderful Saturday. "Not enough can be said about having great neighbors like Penn State Greater Allegheny."
