It’s Not PSUGA’s Night in Loss to Grove City

Grove City, Pa. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Women’s Basketball team (0-6, 0-0) did not have a good night on Monday as they couldn’t get anything going against Grove City JV falling 93-16. After having back-to-back games showing pretty good offensive effort, it all fell apart in Monday’s loss.

Grove City JV took the lead early on and never looked back dominating PSUGA the entire game. The thing that killed PSUGA on the day was the number of turnovers they acquired throughout the contest. In total, the team turned the ball over 32 times with every single player on the PSUGA roster having at least one turnover in the game.

The one bright spot on the day was the fact that Jayla Ellis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) was able to once again score in the double-digits in this one. She put up 11 points on the day and accounted for almost all of the PSUGA offense on the day. She currently leads PSUGA through the first six games in points (74), points per game (12.3), and is second in shooting percentage (35.9%).

There were only two other PSUGA players to record points in this game as Brandy Taylor (Pittsburgh, Pa./Imani Christian Academy) put up four points and Andrea Burroughs (New Rochelle, Ny./New Rochelle) managed just one point in the contest. Burroughs also continues to perform well rebounding leading her team with seven on the day. Brandy Taylor led the team in assists recording four on the day after recording a season high nine against Southern State over the weekend.

The 16 points put up by PSUGA is the lowest amount of points scored in a game in PSUGA Women’s Basketball History. While the shooting percentage had been starting to increase over the last few games, it went back down on Monday as they went just 6-32 (18.8%) from the floor and 0-4 from beyond the arc. They were, however, efficient at the free throw line where they went 4-7 (57.1%) on the day.

The Penn State Greater Allegheny Women’s Basketball Team will take a little bit of a break for the Thanksgiving season before returning to the court. The next time they will be in action will be on Tuesday November 28th when they open up Penn State University Athletic Conference Play as they go on the road to take on Penn State Beaver at 6 p.m.
