Soccer Locks in as #2 Seed in PSUAC Playoffs

McKeesport, Pa. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Soccer Team (9-3, 7-2) received good news from the Penn State University Athletic Conference on Thursday when they were told they would be the #2 seed in the PSUAC playoffs and will host the semi-final round on Saturday October 28th.

Originally, it was looking like PSUGA would be the #3 seed and would have to play on Wednesday October 25th as part of the Quarterfinal round. However, word came out Wednesday that Penn State Hazleton was forced to forfeit their game against Penn State York that was played back on October 7th, 2017. As a result of that forfeit, PSUGA moved up to the number two spot in the PSUAC standings and have officially locked in as the #2 seed behind #1 seeded Penn State Brandywine.

It has been a historic season so far for the Soccer team as they have already broken many school records this season. They set new program records in both overall wins in a regular season, with nine, and conference wins, with seven. Their 5-0 start in PSUAC play was also their best start in program history.

Not only has the team been performing well, but there have been some great individual performances this season as well. Senior Nick Andrews (Penn Hills, Pa./Serra Catholic) leads all players in the PSUAC in assists with nine and Senior Marin Marina (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) is in the top five in goals (11), points (28), and shots (46). Freshman Goal Keeper Colin Buscok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) appears in the top five in the PSUAC in save percentage (.757) and goals against (18). Buscok has also not allowed more than two goals in a game in 10 out of the teams 11 matches this season.

While it has already been a historic regular season, everyone still has their sights set on a PSUAC Championship. There are still some conference games left to be played this weekend to determine the final seeding, but PSUGA has their path to the championship game set in stone.

As of Friday October 20th, this is what the PSUAC playoff schedule will look like:

            Wednesday October 25th:

#3 seed will host #6 seed

#4 seed will host #5 seed

            Saturday October 28th:

#2 PSU-Greater Allegheny will host winner of #3 seed vs. #6 seed

Championship will be held at University Park

PSUGA Soccer will have to wait for the official announcement to see who they will face on Saturday October 28th at the Francis McClure Elementary School soccer field. Come on out and support PSUGA as they look to make a run at the championship.
