McKeesport, Pa. - By a margin of 4-2 over Penn State New Kensington, the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's soccer team closed their 2016-17 season after the first-round of the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoff run.
Junior midfielder Marin Marina (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) was the first to draw in the contest, after he sailed a ball over the goalies head, 1-0 GA.
Not long after, New Kensington tied the game at one before advancing the game to 2-1 before halftime.
Sophomore midfielder Belmo Nurkic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) evened the game at two just a few minutes into the new half as the two teams continued to battle.
New Kensington managed two more goals to solidify their PSUAC victory.
Freshman goalkeeper Prakash Wagley (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) posted three saves.
Nurkic and junior midfielder Nick Andrews (Penn Hills, Pa./Serra Catholic) posted three shots each.
As a team, Greater Allegheny was outshot 12-8.
The Lions finish their season after the home playoff berth with an overall record of 6-6-2, 4-4-1 PSUAC). Currently, Marina holds third place in goals and shots with 21 and 78, respectively, as well as fourth place in points with 47. Marina is also tied for fourth place in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association for shots. Wagley holds third place goals against and goals against average with 26 and 2.41, respectively, alongside fifth place in the PSUAC in save percentage with .708.
