Eventful Second Half in the 5-2 Mont Alto Overthrow

McKeesport, Pa. - Four goals in less than twenty minutes contributed to the 5-2 Penn State Greater Allegheny men's soccer win over Penn State Mont Alto, Saturday afternoon.

Five minutes into the game, Greater Allegheny faced a PK, 1-0 Mont Alto. Ten minutes later, senior midfielder Gerardo Diaz-Perez (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/Immaculate Conception Academy) crossed the ball to junior midfielder Marin Marina (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), who headed it into the back of the net 1-1 for the remainder of the first half.

Junior forward Jake Thieret (Port Vue, Pa./South Allegheny) drew first in the new half of action, after a beautiful cross, 2-1 GA. A few minutes later, a rebound off of a shot resulted in the tying goal at two.

Two minutes later, Marina and Thieret linked up again, this time Marina finding the back of the net, 3-2 Greater Allegheny. The home team never looked back from here. Freshman midfielder Ronnie Caldro (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) moved the ball to Thieret, as he found the back of the net, 4-2.

With his third goal of the game, Marina found the back of the net to cap off of a Thieret corner-kick to finish the Penn State University Athletic Conference foe, 5-2.

Freshman goaltender Prakash Wagley (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) finished the game in net for Greater Allegheny, recording his second win for the Lions with four saves.

Marina posted eight shots alongside his three goal and one assist night as sophomore midfielder Belmo Nurkic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) ripped six shots. 

As a team, Greater Allegheny outshot Mont Alto 40-6, 30 of the blue-and-white shots coming in the second half.

The Lions (4-2-2, 2-1-1 PSUAC) takes a break before going on the road with the women for another PSUAC weekend. The men are set to take on Penn State Worthington-Scranton on Saturday at 3 p.m.
