Monaca, Pa. - Even though the Greater Allegheny men's soccer team held Penn State University Athletic Conference rival, Penn State Beaver, to just one goal through the first half, Beaver tacked on three more in the final half, elevating Beaver over Greater Allegheny, 4-0.
The two teams battled hard through the first 45 minutes of regulation. In the 19th minute mark, Beaver's Julius Illiano took an unassisted ball just past the goalkeepers hands, 1-0 Beaver.
Time expired in the first half as both teams came out ready to go. Greater Allegheny's defense held Beaver for the next 31 minutes before Marcus Smith assisted the next three tallies for the home team. At minute 76, Lamont Wright increased the deficit to 2-0. Five minutes later, Ryan Christy hammered a shot into the back of the mesh, pushing the lead to three.
With less than seven minutes to play, Julius Illiano noted his second goal of the game to elevate his team up and over Greater Allegheny, 4-0.
The Greater Allegheny offense outshot Beaver, 22-18. GA managed to get ten on target but Beaver's keeper put a halt to the line. Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Wood (Rockville, Md./St. John's College High) noted 90 minutes in net, as he faced 13 shots on goal, stopping nine.
Beaver noted an astounding five yellow cards through the match, one being on the bench.
Greater Allegheny (5-3, 2-3 PSUAC) look onward to Saturday afternoon, as they welcome Penn State Worthington-Scranton to Francis McClure in White Oak. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
