Youngwood, Pa. - With major contributions from freshman midfielder Marin Marina (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), sophomore forward Manoj Sharma (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and sophomore midfielder Bengaly Diane (New Jersey/James J. Ferris), the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's soccer team took a 9-4 victory over Westmoreland County Community College, Monday afternoon.
Just two and a half minutes into the game, freshman outside midfielder Nick Jugovic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) received a ball from Diane, putting Greater Allegheny on the board at 1-0.
Through the next 25 minutes of action, the Greater Allegheny offense answered to swell the score to 5-0. Diane hammered the back of the net at 9:50 from a pass from Marina and freshman midfielder Ronnie Dushack (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin). Sharma answered just six minutes later on a pass from Diane, extending the lead to three. Jugovic served a pass to Marina, who put it in the backof the net just after the 25th minute of play. A little over a minute later Sharma controlled a ball from Diane, capping off their scoring drive with 20 minutes of action to play before half.
Westmoreland County Community College notched two goals within three minutes of one another in the 33rd and 36th minute, getting on the board and marking the game at 5-2 to start the second half.
In the 55th minute, WCCC earned another goal to bring the game a hair closer at 5-3. Time began and just 32 seconds later, Marina notched another as he connected with Diane. WCCC managed to tally another four minutes later before GA took off on another scoring drive.
Sophomore midfielder Gerardo Diaz (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/Immaculate Concepcion Academy) assisted a ball to Marina. Marina notched his third goal of the game, as Greater Allegheny increased their lead to 7-4. Diane hammered another goal in the 81st minute from Jugovic before Sharma achieved the second hat-trick of the game. Diane sent a beautiful pass to net as Sharma cleaned up and capped off the scoring drive of the game in the 83rd minute.
Marina finished the game with three goals and one assist, exiting the game with ten points. Sharma completed the game with three goals, leaving with nine points. Diane came in big for the team with five assists alongside his two goals, setting the tone with nine points.
Freshman goalkeeper Giovianni Vega (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Carlos) faced eight shots on goal, stopping four.
Greater Allegheny (5-7-2, 3-3-2 PSUAC) take a few days off before they host Penn State Mont Alto for a Penn State University Athletic Conference bout set for 2 p.m.
