Wilkes-Barre, Pa. - Through extra minutes, the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's soccer team found themselves in a dead heat with Penn State Wilkes-Barre at five, Saturday afternoon.
Freshman forward Marin Marina (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) was the first to notch a goal in the Penn State University Athletic Conference match-up. Fifteen minutes into the match, Marina cleaned up off of a corner-kick to advance GA 1-0.
Wilkes-Barre achieved the next two tallies before sophomore midfielder Bengaly Diane (New Jersey/James J. Ferris) cleaned up a rebound after sophomore midfielder Gerardo Diaz (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/Immaculate Concepcion Academy) hammered it to the goalie. Diane evened the mark at two.
Just a minute and a half later, sophomore forward Manoj Sharma (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) received a long pass from Diane, putting it into the back of the mesh to advance 3-2. Seven minutes from then, Sharma took another ball unassisted to goal, inching ahead of Wilkes-Barre 4-2. Before the half ended, Wilkes-Barre closed the gap to one.
Wilkes-Barre added two goals to boost them ahead of Greater Allegheny 5-4 with 26 minutes left to play. Diane evened the tally at five as he took a ball unassisted past the goalie just four minutes after the last WB goal.
Despite ripping six shots through overtime, the game remained at a stand-still at five. Freshman goalkeeper Giovianni Vega (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Carlos) earned the tie as he saw 16 shots on goal, stopping ten. Sharma peppered the goaltender with ten shots through the 110 minutes of action, earning two goals. Diane took three shots, notching two goals and one assist.
Greater Allegheny (1-4-1, 0-1-1 PSUAC) continues on their roadtrip and travels to Penn State Schyulkill for another Penn State University Athletic Conference match-up. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
