McKeesport, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny men's soccer team welcomed Allegany College of Maryland to Francis McClure Middle School, Thursday afternoon, as Allegany took three goals to one over the home team.
Allegany was the first to answer in the first half, as they notched a goal 25 minutes in, putting Greater Allegheny at a deficit, 1-0.
Halftime came and went and both teams went back on the field hungry for the win. Allegany managed to add another twelve minutes into game time, bumping the score to 2-0.
With just over five minutes to play, freshman midfielder Marin Marina (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) slashed a huge goal from outside the 18-yard box, hammering the ball into the upper mesh, slicing the deficit in half 2-1.
Allegany answered just seven seconds later and completed the scoring tally, 3-1 with Allegany in the winner's position.
Freshman goaltender Alex Wood (Rochville, Md./St. John's College) faced nine shots on goal, stopping six. The Greater Allegheny offense managed eleven shots through regulation, lofting five toward goal.
Greater Allegheny looks ahead as they are scheduled to play Westmoreland County Community College on Saturday. The contest at Francis McClure is scheduled to begin right after the women at 2 p.m.
