McKeesport, Pa. – The Penn State University Athletic Conference released their weekly Player of the Week Awards on Tuesday, and Jordon Payne (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) was rewarded the Week 1 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Award. Payne has been the leader of the PSUGA offense early on and has played a big role in their program best 4-0 start to the season.
Payne has scored at least 17 points in every game this season and is leading the team through the first four games of the season averaging 20.0 points per game. His best performance came in the game against Penn Highlands on Saturday when he scored a season high 25 points in the 104-76 win. Payne has solely led PSUGA in points in a game three times this season and has been tied for the top spot once.
Payne is third on the team among eligible player shooting 39.7% from the field, is leading the team in three-point shooting percentage at 42.1%, and is currently second in free throw percentage at 82.4%. He has scored at least 20 points or more in his last two games and sealed the deal in the CCAC-Boyce game on Friday with two big free throws at the end of the game.
Jordon Payne has been a three-year starter on this PSUGA Men’s Basketball Team under head coach Tyler Care and he has excelled as a leader on this team. The McKeesport native has 820 career points in 59 career games for a PPG average of 13.9 with PSUGA.
Jordan Payne and the rest of the PSUGA Men’s Basketball team will be back in action Wednesday Night as they travel to Clarion, Pa. to take on the Clarion Golden Eagles at 7 p.m. looking to make it five wins in a row to start the season.
